Obituary for Marcela Cano

Marcela Cano, longtime resident of Hereford, Texas passed away Monday, May 13 at the age of 73.

Marcela was born January 16thst, 1946 in Hays County, Texas to Margarito and Hilaria Cano, and had been a resident of Hereford since 1968.

Ms. Cano was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and had worked at The Village Jewelry Store as well as Betty Simpson’s Day Car Center. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching soap operas—The Young and the Restless was a favorite—and scratching off her lottery tickets while drinking a big Red Soda. She also loved making rosaries.

Marcela is preceded in death by her parents, a sister Gloria Cano, her brother Sonny Cano, and her two grandsons Juan Enrique Merino and Margarito Merino.

Survivors include her daughter, Polly Beltran and husband Carlos Muñez of Hereford, Texas, son David Villarreal and wife Martha of Amarillo, Texas, three sisters: Frances Tamez and husband Saturnino of Hereford, Texas, Dalia Espinoza and husband Chon of Amarillo, Texas, and Emma Cano of Seguin, Texas, grandchildren Matthew Cervantez and Enrique Merino, Jr., both of Hereford, Texas, Ylianna and Lexi Villarreal of Amarillo, Texas, Heather Villareal of Hereford, Texas, and Harley David Villareal, of Illinois. In addition, she leaves behind several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and friends all of whom love and will miss her dearly.

The family wants to thank AP Palliative Care staff, especially her primary care nurses Joey Clark, Jaclyn Thurman, April Hamilton, B.J. Smith, Ken Branum, Susan Thomason, and Jonathan Elmquist for the care they gave her.


Services are under the direction of Hereford Heritage Funeral Home.
