Obituary for Viola Birkenfeld

Viola A. Birkenfeld, 87, of Hereford, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2017.

A Rosary is scheduled for Friday, October 13, at 6:30 pm in the Hereford Heritage Rose Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Tony Neusch at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church on Saturday, October 14 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Restlawn Cemetery, Hereford, Texas.
Viola Birkenfeld was born on February 14, 1930 to Paul and Mary Artho in Canyon, Texas. She married Frank Warren in 1951 and was preceded in death by him in 1954. She was married to John Birkenfeld in 1956.

Viola had a long career as a LVU Nurse, working for Deaf Smith General Hospital, Hereford Health Clinic, and Westgate Nursing Home. She also worked as an Industrial Nurse for Swift Meat Company as well as a Quality Control Inspector for Armour Meat Packing.

Viola loved tulips and to crochet and enjoyed fishing as well. She especially enjoyed reading Erma Bombeck, and the Guidepost and Grapevine Magazines.

Viola is preceded in death by her parents, and by her husband John Birkenfeld.

She is survived by her three children, Jim Warren and wife Mary Ann of Dawn, Texas, Terry Haschke of Hereford, Texas, Kathleen Wieck of Dumas, Texas, and Elaine and husband Bob Gerber of Hereford, Texas. She also leaves behind 22 Grandchildren, 47 Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great, Great Grandchildren, all of whom will miss her greatly.

The family requests that memorials go to the Franciscan Friars of Greymoor in Garrison, in New York.
