Obituary for Robert McFarlin Hughes

Robert McFarlin Hughes, 82, long time resident of Hereford, was called home to his Lord on Wednesday, June7, 2017

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, June 9, from 5:00 pm to 8:00pm in the Hereford Heritage Funeral Home Rose Chapel in Hereford, Texas. A Celebration of life Service is scheduled Saturday, June 10 at 2:00pm in the Hereford Heritage Funeral Home Rose Chapel

Services are under the direction of Hereford Heritage Funeral Home.

Robert was born August 7, 1934, in Amarillo, Texas, to Roland McFarlin Hughes of Amarillo, TX, and Edith McPherson Hughes Corcoran of Tinney, NM.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Roland Hughes and Edith Corcoran, his son, Robert Hughes, Jr., two of his sisters, Betty Witt, and Floy Minor, as well as by his niece Tiffany Brown.

Survivors include his 5 daughters Denice and her husband Stan Haley of Amarillo, TX, LeAnne and her husband Gary Vogel of Canyon, TX, Becky Smith of Walnut Creek, CA, Ginger and her husband Trey Hilbert of Amarillo, TX, and Michelle and her husband Wade Wilson of Stinett, TX, as well as by his brother-in-law Bill Brown of Hereford, TX, and former wife Marcy Hughes also of Hereford, TX.

Robert is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert was famous in Hereford for his “Bob’s BBQ Pit”, which he started at age 14 in Amarillo and ran from 1963 to 2006. He was an active supporter of his community and member of Friends of 4-H, as well as member and contributor to the Deaf Smith County Future Farmers of America. He also coached for girls’ softball, and was a loyal supporter of Camp Fire Girls.
